QE2 to host Dubai’s first-ever floating iftar

The Queen Elizabeth 2 is set to host Dubai's first ever floating iftar this Ramadan.

The purpose-built majlis is on the ship’s largest deck and can host up to 250 people.

It is offering an Arabian buffet including live cooking stations, traditional Emirati dishes, fresh salads as well as hot and cold mezze.

There will also be plenty of desserts on offer and a selection of classic Arabic juices and coffee.

The iftar is priced at Dhs250 per person and is open from sunset until 9pm. For children below 12, it's Dhs125 while children below the age of four eat free.

The cost is inclusive of the buffet, soft drinks and water – and it's a great chance to get on board the QE2.

Guests can also choose to sit in the Lido restaurant if they don’t want to eat in the air-conditioned majlis.

The 13-deck ship has only been open for a matter of weeks, and it’s docked permanently at Port Rashid in Dubai.

Just to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere, its two propellers are believed to be displayed at the hotel’s maritime museum.

Queen Elizabeth 2 has 224 refurbished rooms and suites, 13 restaurant and nightlife venues, a shopping arcade and 25 meeting rooms and conferencing facilities.

Guests enter the ship from the terminal, which has been turned into a maritime museum featuring artworks from the ship and showcasing its history at sea.

Dubai bought the ship back in 2007, but it is only now ready to be used as a floating hotel – which is sure to give it a lot more attention.

Dhs250 (adults), Dhs125 (children under 12), free (children under 4). Daily during Ramadan. Queen Elizabeth 2, Mina Rashid, Deira, www.qe2.com (04 526 8888).
